If you placed a winning wager in your account on behalf of a group, use IRS Form 5754 to split the taxable winnings among everyone who shared the ticket. Download the form, list everyone who shares the winnings, and mail it to Player Services so each winner receives their own W-2G.
If you shared a winning wager with other people, IRS Form 5754 lets you report each person's share of the winnings. This helps make sure each winner receives their own tax form for their portion.
What you need to know
- IRS Form 5754 (Statement by Person(s) Receiving Gambling Winnings) is used when a winning wager placed in one person's account was shared by more than one person.
- Every person sharing the winnings must have a wagering account and be listed on the form.
- The completed form is sent to Player Services by mail. Do not send Form 5754 to the IRS.
- A W-2G is the IRS form that reports certain gambling winnings. After we receive your Form 5754, a separate W-2G is prepared for each person listed on the form.
How to split a winning ticket
- Confirm that every person sharing the winnings has a wagering account.
- Download IRS Form 5754 (PDF) from the IRS website.
- Complete Part I with the information for the account holder who placed the wager and received the winnings.
- Complete Part II with each person who shares the winnings, including their name, address, taxpayer identification number (TIN), and share of the winnings. If you are also one of the winners, list yourself first.
- Sign and date the form. A signature is required if federal income tax was withheld from the winnings.
- Make a copy of the completed form for your records.
- Mail the original form to:
Attn: Player Services
801 Corporate Drive, Suite 200
Lexington, KY 40503
Important details
- Reporting and withholding thresholds are based on the total winnings from the wager before it is split, not on each person's share.
- Under IRS rules, W-2Gs based on Form 5754 may be issued right away or by January 31 of the year after the win.
- Each W-2G is mailed to the address on the winner's account.
- For detailed guidance on completing the form, see the IRS Instructions for Forms W-2G and 5754.
- We cannot provide tax advice. If you have questions about how to report your winnings, consult a tax advisor.
