A W-2G is issued when a payout is more than $2,000, the winnings are at least 300 times the wager, and the wagers are on the same track, race, and pool. Federal tax of 24% may be withheld when net winnings are more than $5,000 and meet the 300-times rule. You can view W-2Gs and your win/loss statement in Account History.
A W-2G is the IRS form that reports certain gambling winnings. This article explains when a W-2G is issued, when federal tax is withheld, and how to view your W-2Gs and win/loss statement online.
What you need to know
A W-2G is issued when all of the following apply:
- The payout is more than $2,000.
- The winnings are at least 300 times the amount wagered.
- The wagers are on the same track, race, and pool. A pool is the total amount bet on one wager type in a race, such as win or exacta.
Identical wagers placed with us on the same event and in the same pari-mutuel pool may be combined for reporting.
Federal tax of 24% may be withheld when both of the following apply:
- Your winnings minus the amount wagered are more than $5,000.
